Other ways to support positive change

Whether you’re a campaigner, a nonviolent direct action activist or an anarchist, or if you are not able to participate in the methods of activism you prefer, there are ways we can all practice nonviolence, compassion and community-building within our daily lives.

  • Donate money to local sanctuaries, rescues and organizations that are fighting for positive change, or helping the victims of injustice.

  • Donate your time and energy to volunteering with local sanctuaries & rescues, with women’s rights groups, services and organizations and other groups that are supporting the causes that you are passionate about.

  • Share petitions, announcements, events, legislative news and other important information from organizations and groups that are fighting for positive change.

  • Practice non-violence, kindness and compassion within your own life and community. Educate others on the importance of getting back to our true human nature and supporting, encouraging and helping each other as we unite against injustice to change the oppressive systems and policies that are to blame for much of the destruction and oppression that we all face.

  • Raise awareness and get public support & engagement for your cause through leading online campaigns via email, video outreach and social media. Social media and video sharing platforms (YouTube, vimeo etc.) can be very effective tools for outreach and for getting people to pay attention to your campaign. If you are comfortable with being on camera, then you can start a YouTube channel or just collect footage, create videos or podcasts and share them on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms. Video editing is relatively easy to learn and you can research everything you need to know. Canva is a fantastic graphic design platform that makes it free and easy to make eye-catching graphics for social media, videos and more.

Remember, do your research and stick to the facts.

Digital activism

Beyond keyboard crusaders: The power of social media and online activism

Do social media activism and signing petitions work?

"…. a digital activism campaign [is] an organized public effort, making collective claim(s) on a target authority(s), in which civic initiators or supporters use digital media. With a team of over 40 coders, reviewing hundreds of cases and two decades of digital activism, we used the highest of social scientific standards to build the best available data set on one of the most important trends in global politics.” - Quote from the research paper titled Digital Activism & Non-violent Conflict
